When to Shock Your Swimming Pool

November 28th, 2011

Shock your swimming pool at night that way the sun won’t burn off more chlorine.  Pre-dissolve all shock. The directions may not state that you have to but it’s best to do it anyway.  It spreads easier once dissolved and it won’t sink to the bottom of your pool possibly bleaching your surface.

Always wear gloves when handling pool chemicals and wear old clothes in case of splashing.  Allow your swimming pool to run at least 8 hours straight after adding shock.  Do not swim in your pool after shocking your pool for at least 12 hours.

Optimum Swimming Pool Filter Operation

November 7th, 2011

Most pool owners use a timer to run their filtration system at various times throughout the day. Although running the filtration system 24 hours a day is most beneficial for maintaining clean and clear water, running the system at least 12 hours a day will also work. However, if the system is only run for 12 hours, we recommend that it be run during the daylight hours. Continuously run your filter for 12 hours,  since starting and stopping the pump motor frequently can have an adverse affect on the motor and increasing the need for repairs.

September 17th, 2011

There are three steps to cleaning your pool filter:

  1. Rinse off loose dirt – gently rinse, do not use a spray nozzle if you do it cute actually force the dirt into the cartridge.
  2. Soak your cartridge – soak your cartridge overnight in an alkaline based cleaner solution. This will help break down body oils and lotions.
  3. Final rinse – do a thorough rinse to remove all of the chemicals and remaining debris.

This method is also useful with diatomaceous earth (DE) filters.
