Swimming Pool Tips- Filters

Monday, February 20th, 2012

If you are the proud owner of an in ground swimming pool, having a quality filter is key for an optimal swimming environment.  In fact, a filter is probably the most important piece of equipment that you will purchase for your in ground pool.  You should also look for a high quality brand which is durable and also efficient.

The purpose of a swimming pool filter is to remove dirt and debris from your pool so that you can maintain a clean swimming pool all year long.  Your filter along with a pool pump will work hand in hand, with the pool pump also referred to as the “filter system.”

There are 3 types of pool filters which will work for your above ground pool: sand filters, cartridge filters and DE filters.  You can select which filter is best for your pool based on your preference and also your budget.

Regardless of which filter you do choose, always select one that is a size larger than what is required of your pool’s capacity. With a larger filter, you will need to clean it less frequently which will allow more time to enjoy your swimming pool.

KEEPING YOUR SWIMMING POOL SAFE AND HEALTHY

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Having a clean and healthy swimming pool environment can be a challenge all year long, particularly in the summertime when it’s not as easy to maintain proper pool chemistry due to rain and inclement weather.

Swimming pool water is constantly filled with contaminants which can make it unsafe for pool goers. Dirt, debris and other pollutants can cause serious illness for swimmers, including the presence of amoebic meningitis.

The simplest way to keep a swimming pool clean is to maintain the right chemistry in the water.   It’s a good idea to test the water weekly or to invest in a chlorine generator which will test the water for you. A swimming pool cover is also an ideal way to keep children and animals out of the pool, and it also helps to keep the water warmer and the pool free of bugs and leaves.  Encouraging swimmers to shower prior to entering the water can cut out the amount of body fluids in the pool as well.
By following these simple tips, a cleaner pool will be easy to maintain, and a sparkling pool can be yours all year long.

Maintaining Your Saltwater Swimming Pool

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Salt water pools are becoming more and more popular than the traditional chlorine swimming pool. Saltwater pools are less costly, less work, and more comfortable for the body. The following advice will help make caring for a salt water pool easier.

Maintain Salt Level

A salt water swimming pool must always maintain the minimum salt level required for your automatic chlorine generator. If the salt level is not properly maintained, no chlorine will be produced which will lead to pool water problems.

Proper pH

The pH of a saltwater pool is consistently higher than that of pools using conventional chlorine. Test the pH once or twice a week and add muriatic acid as needed in order to keep the pH between 7.4 and 7.8.

Proper Filtration Time

Remember that chlorine is only being added to a salt pool when the filter is running. One of the biggest mistakes made with salt water swimming pools is trying to save money by reducing the filter run time. Reduced filtration time means reduced chlorine and if enough chlorine is not being added to the swimming pool, frequent algae problems will persist

Keep the Salt Cell Clean

Check the salt chlorinator cell and keep it clean. If calcium builds up on the cell plates clean them as recommended by the owner’s manual of the salt chlorinator. The cells must stay clean or the salt chlorinator will stop producing chlorine.

Five Very Essential Swimming Pool Components

1.Pool pumps – the heart of a swimming pool – pumps provide the flow of water through your filtration system.

2.Pool Filters – responsible for collecting and removing all dirt and debris.

3.Pool Cleaners – pool cleaners save owners from tedious hand scrubbing and brushing.

4.Pool Chemicals – includes chlorine, cyanuric acid, pool shock, bromine, and algaecide, these maintain the quality and sanitation of your pool water.

5.Pool Covers – protect your pool from rain, snow, debris and UV rays and keep it from evaporating.

Weekly Pool Service – What to Expect

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

No one likes a dirty pool and having to clean it yourself is time consuming. Your time should be spent swimming not cleaning. Cleaning your own inground or fiberglass pool means dragging out the vac hose, get it primed, skim the water line and deal with all the other junk that has taken over your skimmer basket and pool filter.

Hire a pool cleaning service company to take all your troubles away. They will check all your equipment to verify everything is working properly and the flowing:

Clean skimmer basket
Vacuum bottom and walls
Brush walls
Skim waterline for leaves and debris
Backwash filter (if necessary)
Test and balance water
Fill chlorine and other necessary chemicals

Remember that the cleaning service can only be responsible for the cleanliness of the pool, once he/she is finished and left its up to you to keep a watchful eye. All it takes is the wind to start blowing or a thunderstorm to roll through blow a bunch of debris back into the pool.
