Most pool owners use a timer to run their filtration system at various times throughout the day. Although running the filtration system 24 hours a day is most beneficial for maintaining clean and clear water, running the system at least 12 hours a day will also work. However, if the system is only run for 12 hours, we recommend that it be run during the daylight hours. Continuously run your filter for 12 hours, since starting and stopping the pump motor frequently can have an adverse affect on the motor and increasing the need for repairs.

Friday, April 29th, 2011Every pool has a circulation pump and filter. The most common filters are sand filters, which are easy to maintain. The pool pump ensures water moves through a filter removing unwanted organic pollutants.
A pool pump should run for at least 6-8 hours a day. This should remove floating or suspended particles of dirt from the water but not the accumulate dirt at the bottom or stuck to the walls of the pool. Regular brushing and vacuuming addresses this issue.
