Every pool has a circulation pump and filter. The most common filters are sand filters, which are easy to maintain. The pool pump ensures water moves through a filter removing unwanted organic pollutants.

A pool pump should run for at least 6-8 hours a day. This should remove floating or suspended particles of dirt from the water but not the accumulate dirt at the bottom or stuck to the walls of the pool. Regular brushing and vacuuming addresses this issue.

Also, you will need to backwash the filter at least every two years. Sand and dirt will accumulate in the filter and this needs to be cleared out. After backwashing you’ll notice a rise in return pressure. The lifespan of the sand in your filter is 3-5 years.
