Pool Owners Biggest Complaint – Algae

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Pool algae are one of the biggest complaints of swimming pool owners and operators. Algae, a one celled marine plant consist of several thousand species. They invade your pool or spa water and cause that green cloud on the walls. The most common species of algae is the green algae.

Green algae are the easiest to treat. You can eliminate green algae quicker than yellow algae or the dreaded black algae. Algae flourish in water with the right conditions.  If you maintain your pool chlorine properly, algae can not grow.  Chlorine is just one of the chemicals that have to be consistently maintained in order to control algae.

Ways to prevent pool algae is to ensure proper filtration, right size pump for your pool size and maintain chlorine levels between 1.0 ppm to 3.0 ppm at all times.  Another way is to clean and brush your pool frequently.

When you purchase a new swimming pool and spa with Anthony & Sylvan, we offer pool school, which properly trains you on how to maintain proper chemical balance and how to treat frequent problems with your pool water.

Selecting A Pool Site

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

There are many factors that come into play when determining the best site to build your pool.  First, you must consider any underground obstructions that would include wires, cables, gas lines, septic tanks, dry-well systems, plumbing, trees and overhead power lines.  Underground obstruction and utilities should be located before excavation begins.  Utility companies will locate and mark underground lines and cables free of charge.

Second factor to consider is how the sun and even shade affects your pool site. Excessive shade from trees and buildings could result in unfavorable water conditions.  During swimming weather excessive sun and no shade could make the water temperature unbearable.  During winter months too much shad will increase water heating costs.

A third factor is existing landscape removal. The decision to remove any trees or shrubbery should be based on how it affects the maintenance of the pool.  The amount of landscaping removed without disturbing the natural scenery of the backyard. When removing trees, the entire root system should be excavated. Tree roots may cause settling of pool walls.

There are many more factors to consider when selecting a pool site.  Anthony Sylvan Pool’s professional contractors will assure you that every step and consideration be made prior to building your pool.

Another Happy Houston Pool Owner!

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

A recent Anthony & Sylvan client shared their satisfaction:

To all of the Anthony Sylvan Team,

This is a dream come true. They sprayed the plaster today. I can’t believe how beautiful it is. I made imaginary snow angels in the bottom until the water crept up. I think I will be up all night watching it fill with water. I have the most beautiful pool ever. More than that, I have a whole bunch of new friends. You are all super people. Bill you are great as a designer. You got it all right and even things I didn’t think about. Amy, you have been a doll to work with. I really appreciate all the answers you had. Mike, you are a fantastic person and a great leader for all of those hard-working crews. You’re number 1 in a lot of ways.

You are all always invited to come out here to swim, shoot, have a glass or two of a good wine, let the kids romp and play or whatever makes you happy. We are always ready for a party.
